Another hardy ginger suitable for undergrowth planting in leaf mould litter. Winter dormant, emerging with 2ft stems in the spring bearing clusters of maroon bracts and yellow flowers.

Another form of coccinea with good sized salmon flower heads. The growth habit is much finer than Tara, with thinner leaves and stems. As a bonus the stems have red markings rather than plain green, which adds to this attraction.

The butterfly ginger with an over-powering perfume often used in scent production. A tall strong growing plant needing a large pot and an established specimen for flowering. Shorter flowering if put outside in a warm sunny position during summer and  brought inside in September to flower.

A smaller ginger hardy in all parts of the UK. Treat it as a clumping border perennial plant, when each year it will throw 3ft leafy stems topped by orange flower spikes about 2” long in August/September.

A short flowering exotic Hedychium to 3ft bearing magnificent terminal inflorescences densely packed with white flowers and long orange filaments. A very unusual ginger flower and very attractive, best in semi shade.

Still my favourite ginger lily with huge inflorescences of bright golden yellow, scarlet stamens and a fantastic perfume. Flowers easily once the root stock is filling a 10” pot or larger providing it is fed regularly and given plenty of sun.

Identical in all characteristics to coronarium apart from the gold throat in the flower. It has been propagated from a plant originally found in a private garden in India. We were made over with the flowers and scent during our 2006 trials of these rhizomes.

A lovely plant for both flower and foliage. Quite hardy in some areas so worth a try outdoors, but flowering late into September. The bonus for this plant is the strong clumping nature producing many new flower spikes. The glossy dark green leaves have a maroon reverse with a hint of maroon in the new stems. It produces flower bracts early enough but it can take a further month for the striking orange/red flowers to emerge.

A new ginger from the Himalayas that we have not grown or supplied before, we think this is likely to be similar in habit to spicatum which it may be a sub species of but with pink flowers and reasonably hardy for mild areas of the country.
