Spare Roots and Rhizomes from our own Stock Plants

When we bring in our harvest after the summer propagation we sometimes have spare roots available for immediate sale. These are best started into growth immediately on arrival, in warm conditions and we do not recommend that you try to store them until the spring.

Please note that we normally only deliver these items within the UK and they all have additional shipping charges (25p per item) because of the additional weight.

Butterfly Ginger 1 Rhizome ■☻җ җ

A white butterfly ginger which like most of the hedychiums has a beautiful fragrance. This one smells of Gardenias and is used in the perfume industry. Fairly root hardy growing to 5ft with the flowers on terminal spikes in late summer. Prefers partial shade but can take full sun with ample moisture. Probably best over wintered in a frost free area, either dormant or preferably kept growing into the following year.

A Tom Wood superb white hybrid ginger with huge white moth type flowers and a beautiful coronarium like fragrance. Shorter flowering at 1 metre than Coronarium and therefore more suitable for conservatory pot growing. The other advantage is the repeat flowering nature of this plant from the central calyx over at least a four to five week period, where other hedychiums generally open up their flowering spike from bottom to top and then finish flowering within a week. Not suitable for permanent garden use and slight shade suits it best under glass.
