One of the most useful herbs and a key ingredient for many Italian and Indian dishes and great when fresh in salads. Basil lives up to it's Indian origins and is best suited to the warmer areas of the UK although with correct positioning, it will thrive as a container plant outside in less protected areas. We offer Genovese sweet which is slightly taller and more robust than the normal green bush form, and a red Organic variety.

Mrs. Burns lemon basil is an heirloom cultivar of sweet basil from New Mexico. The lemon flavour is more intense, the leaves are larger, and the plant itself is more robust than the normal lemon basil.

A pretty if not robust herb to 2ft with hairy grey green leaves that have a cucumber flavour. The leaves are used to flavour drinks or chopped in salads and the pretty blue bell-shaped flowers can be used as a garnish in fruit cups. The flowering plants are very attractive to bees and this annual plant will self seed once established.

Chamomile is famous for its flowers that are picked, dried and used for the famous chamomile tea which is said to aid digestion and treat insomnia. The plant is rich in calcium and also used in hair rinses.

A well known member of the Onion family, with mild onion flavoured foliage useful for salads and soups. An early season herb quite hardy and easy to grow and one of our favourites.

Grown as an annual, fresh coriander leaves are used in curries and chutney, but the seeds are also used in casseroles, pickles, soups, poultry stuffing, stews, sauces and desserts, and indispensable in hot spicy dishes. Excellent for micro greens where it can even be grown indoors in small pots on a sunny windowsill for baby leaf production.

Cumin seed are used in curry dishes and pickles, and as a flavouring in breads, cakes and biscuits. Cumin is a warm climate plant needing a sheltered position outside or grown under glass.

This is the type Lemon grass used for coking - an excellent aromatic clumping tropical grass growing to 6' tall.  When the leaves are crushed the fragrance resembles the scent of lemon. The stem and leaves are used for cooking in the Asian kitchen but it is also used to make a refreshing tea and for perfume, oil and medicine.

One of the best varieties for leaf production. A Tall erect plant with dark green foliage, very productive and slow to flower. The feathery leaves are used most often with fish.

A hardy European perennial herb with erect growth and dark bronze feathery foliage. The fern-like leaves taste of aniseed and is used for flavouring fish, sauces, salads and vegetables, egg recipes. (Do not confuse with Florence Fennel that produces bulbous edible roots)

Feverfew is an easy quick growing plant often used as a medicinal herb or general tonic and a mild sedative. Said to prevent and treat migraine headaches, rheumatism and to improve digestion, sometimes used externally for bruises and insect bites. The plant produces an oil used in perfumes and the dried flowers can be used to make a a form of tea.

An attractive aromatic shrub for the sunny border, container or herb garden. Lovely silver-grey foliage and lavender blue flowers in summer. Prune hard in early spring to maintain a more compact shape. Vera is an extremely fragrant variety of Lavender.

Lemon balm has traditionally been used as a medical herb rather than as a spice but its fresh and pure lemon taste, makes it a perfect substitute for fresh lemon grass or, in dried form, sassafras. In Central Europe, lemon balm is sometimes used to flavour sweet drinks and the leaves make an interesting decoration on many dishes to go with fish, poultry and salads.

Lovage a Mediterranean plant, is a beautiful hardy perennial herb belonging to Umbelliferae, the same family as angelica and carrot. A tall addition to the herb garden looking like giant celery, lovage is often placed at the back of the herbaceous border. Lovage seeds, leaves and stems have a similar flavour to celery and can be used in soups, salads and rice dishes and Lovage tea can be made from the dried leaves creating a very agreeable aroma.

From Portugal Sweet Marjoram is actually a perennial but best grown as an annual. In a warm sheltered position it might be possible to over winter outside. Strong sweet aromatic flavour. with small grey leaves and white flowers up the stem. Seed can be sown directly outside in April or earlier under cover.

A selected strain with tightly curled dark green leaves used for garnishing. Can be grown on a windowsill or planted out alongside lettuce and other salad crops. To harvest keep up a regular picking routine which will encourage fresh new growth.

This mint has dark green leaves sometimes with a touch of red. A slightly stronger mint flavour than the spearmint and the dried leaves and flowers of peppermint can be used in cosmetics and pot-pourris as well as flavouring salads etc.

One of the best known herbs but they like a sheltered warm situation to replicate more Medirerranean climates. Alternatively grow in pots under glass or indoors.  The aromatic leaves as well as the blue flowers can be used to flavour roast lamb or vegetables. The leaves can be used fresh or dried.

A grey-green leafed shrub with oval leaves and purple flowers. Height 1ft to 2ft.  This is a well known herb used extensively for seasoning. Sage should be lightly cut back after flowering to avoid leggy plants.

A common mint used for flavouring peas and potatoes and to make a mint sauce, Also used in a tea, for desserts and iced drinks. This is the best mint for making mint tea and as a bonus the plant bears lovely blue flowers.

This Russian Tarragon, unlike French Tarragon can be grown from seed. The leaves have a strong and sweet anise flavour and are used in salads and sauces for seasoning, especially popular for fish dishes. Sometimes used for flavouring vinegar. The plant is a perennial but will need protection from cold winters and can also be grown as a container plant.

A spicy anise or clove scented flavour commonly used in Thai or Vietnamese cooking. Attractive plants 12” to 18” tall with medium green leaves, purple stems and blossoms and good for container gardening.

This variety of Thyme has a creeping habit forming matts of foliage about 10cm tall. With the attractive purple flowers this variety can be used for both ornamental and culinary applications.
