Amaranthus dubius

JS3291
!
Callaloo aprox Aprx 50 seeds
Most leafy Amaranthus varieties are edible but as far as I can determine this one is the true "Callaloo" An erect herb up to 1.5m tall with a branched stem and oblong dark-green leaves. Its mainly used as a leafy vegetable like spinach and is the "Callaloo" used widely in the Caribbean. This annual herb may be harvested 30-50 days from sowing and planted out after all frosts have passed - best in a sunny warm position. We also sell many ornamental Amaranth in our annual seed section with stricking flower bracts or giant 6ft sized plants but they are not the true Callaloo of the Caribbean.

The Worlds Largest Pumpkin!  5 seeds
Have a go and see how big you can grow a pumpkin. Pumpkin Dill's Atlantic Giant regularly produces 400 lb. pumpkins with a record weight of  over 1000 lbs.! I have even heard that in hot weather the vine can grow 3ft over night! You will need a big warm plot for one of these and some rich manure dug in. Note this variety is much larger than "Hundredweight" that has had a lot of publicity lately.

Solanum muricatum

JS647
!

Pepino fruit  10 seeds

Solanum muricatum or the Pepino is a small bush or shrub from South America much like the tomato in looks and habit. Usually fruits in 9-12 months, so a frost free environment is required. Pepino’s will stand a few degrees of freezing however. Our trial plants started flowering in August from a spring sowing and the fruit that ripened around Christmas was best described as a sweet melon flavour with the texture of a Kiwi fruit and quite delicious. One fruit shown in the picture was about the size of a grapefruit. Best grown like a pot tomato plant and in the same conditions although they have proved much hardier and continue to grow through our winter even in a cold frost free greenhouse.

Sweet Corn Double Red

!

Red Sweet Corn 16 seeds

A new exciting Sweet Corn from the USA with brilliantly coloured kernels in shades of red/white and purple.  Suitable for cooler climates like the UK it has high yields from stocky short plants.  The bonus is the beautiful ornamental red stalks, red husks and even the male flowers are red tinted. A delicious early sweet corn that is excellent for eating fresh from the cob, but also good for drying and grinding to make traditional corn flour.

I was first alerted to this new corn by a customer, Duncan Meyers who had one growing amongst his Bloody Butcher plants that led to finding a true seed source.

Sweet Corn Hopi Blue

JS2090
!

Indian Blue Corn  15 seeds

Sweet Corn Hopi Blue is an unusual sweet corn developed by the Hopi Indians renowned for its sweet and distinctive blue cornmeal. Excellent for eating fresh while the kernels are tender just as they start to turn from white to blue, but used dry for blue corn chips, blue flour etc. Also used for decoration. Bushy 5 foot plants produce 7 inch ears and are quite nutritious. What upsets me most is that they are really delicious but all of our own trial crops have to be turned into seed for resale and my wife won't let me eat them!!
