Oregano is a semi hardy perennial growing to 50cm, with pink flowers and spade-shaped, olive-green leaves. It prefers a hot, relatively dry climate, but will do well in other environments. To cultivate, it should be sown in early spring under glass in heat, then planted out from May onwards in a fairly dry soil, with full sun. The plants should be spaced 12 inches apart or grown in pots on the patio. Needs some frost protection or perhaps best grown as an annual in the UK.
