Phoenix canariensis is a very popular and widespread palm which can be grown outside in the summer months or as an excellent house plant tolerating both dry and poor light conditions. It is surprisingly hardy, maybe to minus 8C when an established plant, so should be fine planted out all year round in warmer micro-climates . It has the advantage of being quick and easy to grow from seed, developing a slim trunk giving this palm an elegant appearance.
